Its a design modelling tool, not a production tool. Getting back to the thread origins, I’d place SketchUp in that category. This is the difference between modelling toolsets and production toolsets…editability and reissue of production data (models/drawings/schedules etc).
If I was modelling something from scratch Rhino offers more control but change it and you are into remodelling. You posted a model of roof slabs earlier in the thread and VW has a specific roof slab plug in with drain runs etc. The plug ins are also very powerful, much like the Revit family parts. VW can swap out that 3D projection with a simplified 2D view of that element, including adding notes etc.
For example, I use a 3D model and create a plan view. Vectorworks has hybrid blocks combining 3D and 2D overlays and whatever projection you use it displays that. So updates are made at model level and the graphic control is rich and very details (noting other comments further up this thread about drafting in Rhino….sure you can do it but it’s not that good).īut for me the big differentiator as an AEC tool is the block control and plug ins that come with the core product. Drawings in Vectorworks are linked to the model. As to Rhino comparing to apps like Vectorworks, yes and no.
